Evening Psalm

Oratio (prayer)
Gracious Lord, as this day ends, send Your Holy Spirit as I pray Psalm 113, that I may praise Your name from the rising of the sun to its going down, and rest in the God who lifts the poor. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Meditatio (meditation)
Psalm 113
1Praise ye the LORD. Praise, O ye servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD.
2Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore.
3From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’s name is to be praised.
4The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens.
5Who is like unto the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high,
6Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!
7He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill;
8That he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.
9He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD.
Consider even rereading in another translation.
You could also consider listening to this chapter, narrated:
KJV (Max McLean) · ESV (Max McLean) · NIV (dramatized)
You might read the whole reading slowly, aloud, more than once.
Consider this verse, for example:
“From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’s name is to be praised.” (Psalm 113:3)
What other lines speak to you?
The Law "The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens" (v. 4). We have treated the High One as small, and we have looked down on the poor and needy He cares for. Our praise has often stopped at sundown, or never begun.
The Gospel "Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!" (v. 6). God does not stay far off. In Jesus He came all the way down, and "He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill" (v. 7). That is His heart toward you. Blessed be His name "from this time forth and for evermore" (v. 2).
Prayer Merciful Father, I confess that I have not praised You as I ought and have not loved the lowly as You do. Forgive me for Jesus' sake. Thank You for humbling Yourself to save me. Lift my heart to praise Your name tonight. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Tentatio (trial)
When a day has left us feeling low, or when we see others stuck in the dust, this Psalm is good company. God is high, yet He lifts. Under trial it may help to remember that the LORD who is praised from sunrise to sundown is the same Lord who sets the needy "with princes" (v. 8) in Christ.
Evening prayer Lord God, high and merciful, as night falls I praise Your name. Lift the needy You know by name, keep me through the dark hours, and wake me to bless You again. In Jesus' name, Amen.
