Evening Psalm

Oratio (prayer)
O LORD, out of the depths I cry to You. Send Your Holy Spirit as I pray Psalm 130 this evening, that I may hope in Your Word and rest in Your forgiveness through Jesus Christ. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Meditatio (meditation)
Psalm 130
A Song of degrees.
1Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O LORD.
2Lord, hear my voice: let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.
3If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?
4But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.
5I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.
6My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning.
7Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.
8And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.
Consider even rereading in another translation.
You could also consider listening to this chapter, narrated:
KJV (Max McLean) · ESV (Max McLean) · NIV (dramatized)
You might read the whole reading slowly, aloud, more than once.
Consider this verse, for example:
“But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.” (Psalm 130:4)
What other lines speak to you?
The Law "If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?" (v. 3). None of us. The depths are real, and our sins would sink us if God kept a strict account.
The Gospel "But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared" (v. 4). With the LORD "there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption" (v. 7). In Jesus "he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities" (v. 8), and that redemption is for you. You may wait for the LORD tonight, and hope in His Word.
Prayer O LORD, I confess my iniquities. Forgive me for Jesus' sake. Let me hope in Your Word, and redeem me with Your plenteous redemption. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Tentatio (trial)
Night can feel like the depths. Under trial it may help to pray the Psalm's cry: "Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O LORD" (v. 1). Forgiveness is with Him. You might lie down waiting for His morning mercy.
Evening prayer Lord, watch over me this night. Forgive my sins, keep me hoping in Your Word, and wake me in Your mercy. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Scripture quotations are from the King James Version.
