Morning Psalm

Oratio (prayer)
O God, be merciful unto us this Lord's Day morning. Send Your Holy Spirit as I pray Psalm 67, that Your face may shine on me and Your saving health be known among all nations in Jesus Christ. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Meditatio (meditation)
Psalm 67
To the chief Musician on Neginoth, A Psalm or Song.
1God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; Selah.
2That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations.
3Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee.
4O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. Selah.
5Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee.
6Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us.
7God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him.
Consider even rereading in another translation.

You might read the whole reading slowly, aloud, more than once.
Consider this verse, for example:
“cause his face to shine upon us” (Psalm 67:1)
What other lines speak to you?
The Law The Psalm longs that God's "way may be known upon earth" (v. 2). Yet we keep the good news to ourselves, and we forget that God will "judge the people righteously" (v. 4), ourselves included. We often want His blessing for us alone, not for the nations.
The Gospel "God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us" (v. 1). This is the blessing God puts on His people, and in Jesus His face shines on you with grace, not wrath. His "saving health" (v. 2) is for "all nations" (v. 2), and so it is surely for you. "God, even our own God, shall bless us" (v. 6).
Prayer O God, I confess that I have kept Your mercy to myself. Forgive me for Jesus' sake. Let Your face shine on me, and make Your saving health known through me to others. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Tentatio (trial)
When the morning feels gray, the Psalm gives us a prayer for light: "cause his face to shine upon us" (v. 1). Under trial it may help to pray it slowly, and to remember that it is the blessing God speaks over His people in worship.
Prayer Lord, shine on me today, and bless the people I will meet. Let Your way be known through Christ. In Jesus' name, Amen.
