Evening Psalm

Oratio (prayer)
O LORD, You have done marvellous things. Send Your Holy Spirit as I pray Psalm 98 this evening, that I may sing Your new song through Jesus Christ. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Meditatio (meditation)
Psalm 98
A Psalm.
1O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.
2The LORD hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen.
3He hath remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
4Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.
5Sing unto the LORD with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm.
6With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King.
7Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.
8Let the floods clap their hands: let the hills be joyful together
9Before the LORD; for he cometh to judge the earth: with righteousness shall he judge the world, and the people with equity.
Consider even rereading in another translation.
You could also consider listening to this chapter, narrated:
KJV (Max McLean) · ESV (Max McLean) · NIV (dramatized)
You might read the whole reading slowly, aloud, more than once.
Consider this verse, for example:
“O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things” (Psalm 98:1)
What other lines speak to you?
The Law All the earth is called to make a joyful noise, yet we can end the day mute. "Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth" (v. 4). Silence before such mercy is its own forgetfulness.
The Gospel "O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory" (v. 1). That victory is the cross and the empty tomb. "The LORD hath made known his salvation" (v. 2), and that salvation is yours tonight in Christ.
Prayer O LORD, I confess that I have been slow to sing of Your victory. Forgive me for Jesus' sake. Put Your new song in my mouth, and let me rest in the salvation You have made known. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Tentatio (trial)
Night can make marvellous things feel distant. Under trial it may help to pray the Psalm's own song: "O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things" (v. 1). You might lie down remembering the victory His holy arm has won for you.
Evening prayer Lord, watch over me this night. Keep Your new song near, and let me rest in Your marvellous salvation. In Jesus' name, Amen.
