FAITH, FAMILY, FELLOWSHIP & FREEDOM

"Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you." — Isaiah 60:1

FOCUS: ALWAYS PUT FAITH FIRST!

It is necessary to remind ourselves and to review the contextual readings of Matthew 22:37-40; about the "greatest commandment."

Additionally, reading the commandment in John 13:34-35 that created Maundy Thursday.

Also learning about agape love and the beauty of 1 Corinthians especially versus in chapter 13:12-13 which speaks about about faith, hope and love, along with how our understanding matures throughout our lives and spiritual journey.

We must learn every human is in a stage of spiritual development and suffers through spiritual warfare. Cultivate empathy for this in your own life and in the lives of others.

It is important to compassionately forgive and love one another as good shepherds of each other. Together we repair hopelessness, we forgive debts, trespasses, encourage the discouraged, redirect the diverted, unite the divided, and give new sight to those blinded by deception.

United we recognize signs of spiritual warfare in the moments and thoughts of our lives. Then we can find comfort for ourselves and others.

Fasting away from the world with focused hearts and minds full of the Holy Spirit sent from Jesus Christ, grows a faith greater than a mustard seed, to bring forth the full glory of our God, to manifest in us like a focused light of knowledge and awakening everything beautiful.

SPIRITUAL WARFARE:

Understanding the Ordinary Activity of the Devil

All of us need to be aware of how Satan attempts to attack us in the ordinary circumstances of life: within marriage, relationships with family and children, friends, colleagues at work and school and in our prayer life, faith life, moral life, and sacramental life. The devil wants to disrupt our lives and bring about an uneasiness that robs us of our sense of inner peace.

In today's session, Fr. Vincent Lampert on the Hallow App will be discussing this very thing. The ordinary activity of the devil and how we can find inner peace in the midst of these attacks.

Opening Prayer

In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Angel of God, my Holy protector given to me from God for my protection, I fervently beseech you. Enlighten me and preserve me from all evil. Instruct me in good deeds and direct me on the path of salvation. Amen.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

The Four-Step Plan of the Devil

TEMPTATION is at the center of the ordinary activity of Satan and he uses a 4-step plan in his attacks on us:

  • DECEPTION
  • DIVISION
  • DIVERSION
  • DISCOURAGEMENT

This 4-plan attack is what Fr. Vincent Lampert on the Hallow App wants to talk about in this session.

The Reality of the Devil’s Attacks

On our daily journeys, we all encounter something or someone who is INTELLIGENT, CONCEALED, POWERFUL, DESTRUCTIVE, and who WANTS TO INTRUDE INTO OUR LIVES, in ways that are HARMFUL AND DESTRUCTIVE. It is worth our while to pay attention to these attacks, for their primary goal is to fracture our lives in such a way that we're pulled further and further AWAY FROM GOD and the further we are removed from GOD, the more we lose our sense of identity. The human person seeks intimacy with GOD. The DEVIL wants to DESTROY this divine intimacy, he wants to get us to sin, because every sin strengthens his hold on this world. In the script of the Devil, we forget who we are, and whose we are. The human person, is created in the image and likeness of GOD and has the innate desire for GOD. St. Augustine said it best when he said:

“Our hearts are restless oh Lord, until they rest in you.”

Deception

In the Garden of Eden, the Devil was successful in convincing Adam and Eve that Good and Evil no longer depended on God, but on one's own interpretations. He used DECEPTION to convince the human person to act independently from the law of God. All of us need to realize that this is what the Devil tries to do with us. DECEPTION is embedded in everyday life to try and pull us away from God. The Devil has no need for dramatic effects, he moves in a very quiet and subtle manner. As St. Paul has taught us, Satan disguises himself as an angel of light and deceives many people. (2 Corinthians 11:14). We all want to do the right thing, to do what God expects of us. Yet there are times when we find ourselves doing the complete opposite. St. Paul defines it this way:

“I can will what is right, but I can not do it. For I do not do the good that I want, but the evil that I do not want is what I do.” (Romans 7:18b-19)

The end result with DECEPTION is that the human person becomes a law and measure of all things. We take the place of God. This is what the Devil did and he wants us to do the same.

Division

By buying into the Devil's lies, we are led into the second plan of attack the devil uses in his ordinary activity to trip us up, mainly division. Once we have bought into the lies of the Devil, we should not be surprised that he now wants to sow division. He wants to divide people from God, each other, and from their very selves. After Adam and Eve sinned, they went and hid from God, not together, but apart. Rather than owning up to their actions, they kept pointing the blame. When God asked Adam what he had done, he pointed to Eve. When God asked Eve what she had done, she pointed to the Serpent. They had chosen a world of ugliness and deception over the world of God's beauty and truth. God wants a sense of cohesion and unity in his creation. The Devil just wants a bunch of broken pieces. He can make us feel overwhelmed, frightened, impatient, agitated, dissatisfied and jealous. He fills us up with anger, resentment, contempt, and greed. He can short circuit our lives with drugs and various forms of addictions, or infidelity. Some examples are the break-up of the family, the opioid crisis, alcohol abuse, pornography and the attack on the unborn. This brokenness leads us to the third plan of attack that the Devil uses in his ordinary activity, namely DIVERSION.

Diversion

Once the Devil gets us to buy into his lies and has divided us into a mass of broken pieces his next plan of attack is DIVERSION. The Devil desires that we divert ourselves from the pathway of God. God has a plan for everyone and this is something the Devil does not want us to discover. His goal in diversion is to have us lose our focus and our sense of purpose and direction whereby we believe we can act independently from God. The Devil tried this with Jesus when he tempted him in the desert and he tries it with us as well. In the world of diversion, we replace God with ourselves and operate with three guiding principles:

  • You may do what you wish.
  • No one has the right to command you.
  • You are the god of yourself.

Diversion acts in a subtle way. Often times we do not realize that we are off course and perhaps have been off course for a while. With diversion, the Devil wants us to believe that we are not on a journey to Heaven and that this world is our final destination. The Devil says to us that we don't need God because paradise is something that we create here and now according to a truth of our own making.

Discouragement

Buying into this line of thinking is extremely dangerous, because if there is no stable truth, no grounding, there is no specific direction that is right or appropriate. The end result is DISCOURAGEMENT. DISCOURAGEMENT is the most dangerous threat to the Spiritual life because it robs us of HOPE. Hope let's us know that whatever we are dealing with, whatever we are experiencing, wherever we find ourselves is not the end of the story, there is more to come. Hope is exemplified in Jesus on the Cross. His death marks not the end but a new beginning. Making us feel discouraged is how the Devil wants to take Jesus's gift of HOPE away from us.

Choosing the Path of Christ

When we journey through the stages of the ordinary activity of the Devil and arrive at DISCOURAGEMENT we have a choice to make. We can resign ourselves to the fact that we are walking the pathway of the Devil or we can choose the pathway of Jesus Christ. One pathway leads to death, the other to eternal life. May we always walk the pathway of Jesus, who is THE WAY, THE TRUTH and THE LIFE. (John 14:6)

Reflection

As we close, take some time to reflect on what you have learned in this session:

  • Did anything in particular stand out to you, or perhaps you learned something new?
  • Now, take a moment to talk to God about these reflections.
  • What is he trying to point out?
  • What is he trying to tell you?
  • Where are you experiencing a lack of peace in your own life today?
  • Invite the LORD into that space, asking him to calm the chaos and bring PEACE to your heart.

DECEPTION, DIVISION, DIVERSION AND DISCOURAGEMENT are the 4 WAYS the Devil invades our ordinary lives. We know that when we are at PEACE, that is of GOD. When we are NOT at peace, we are experiencing one of the 4 ways the Devil attacks us.

Closing Prayer

In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Oh Jesus my savior, my LORD and my GOD who through the sacrifice of the cross redeemed us and overcame the power of Satan. I beseech you to free us from every harmful presence and influence of the devil. May the blood and water which flowed forth from your side purify, free and heal me. Amen.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Looking Ahead

In this session Fr. Vincent Lampert talked about the ordinary activity of the Devil. These are not the only activities the evil one uses to turn us from God. In our next session (number 4) Fr. Vincent Lampert will discuss the extraordinary activity of the devil. I hope you'll join us (Hallow App). Until next time, God Bless you.

Until next time, God bless you.
