POETRY & PROSE

S.C.M. Dooley "Reflections of the Skeleton" ;-)

In a sense, a little HOMAGE to +FRAVIA, a "white hat" hacker and software reverse engineer whose site I stumbled upon back in my medical school days. I was mesmerized. He was about my age now back then. Then when I went looking for him and his information several years later, I found a new version of his site and it was a wonderful discovery that led me to GNU/Linux and all sorts of amazing things. He loved sharing knowledge and how to acquire it as we hack every aspect of life and information. He had "searchlores.org" may he R.I.P. (03 MAY 2009, in the 56th year of his life due to cancer). Yet some fragments of his works are mirrored here and there on the internet now 15 years later, if one knows how to look. Maybe worth looking sometime, maybe some old good tools, maybe some new ones exist? For me the world of GNU/Linux and Free/Libre software sufficed for my purposes. +Fravia was of a delight and of the old guard, kinda like Paul Lutus and Richard Stallman (founder of GNU and the Free Software Foundation). I enjoyed reading and communicating with +Fravia. I also communicated with Richard Stallman a little bit when I was new to GNU/Linux and that was formative for me as well. Anyway, there's a little bit of ~Fravia's essence here in fieri, and a smiling nod in some of my writing and style choices, including the simplicity of things to that kindred spirit of the old guards of the internet and hacking. So of course with a modicum of ~Fravian flair I've put into my own style some poetry mixed in. Yes, it's perhaps pompous, but even that is intentional just for some good fun rather than an annoyance. However, in all seriousness, typically appropriate somehow to make something memorable a little longer than otherwise. Maybe we will share in the enjoyment of all of the absurdities of this life as seekers and life hackers (in the good sense of the true etymology of that word "hacker") together?

I've met a lot of human beings in my life and watched many more from a lay person's perspective and from a professional perspective. I was very nearly on the track to graduate school in anthropology, although more from the biological basis of things and less of the cultural. I think I made the wise choice as the culture is going to hell and really needs no explanation. Hopefully, souls find their way to the light of the right corner here and there, but the wayward corners seem to be multiplying all the time! As we reach our middle age and are looking at the "back nine" of this life, waxing poetic, a sense of humor, and some metaphysical and intellectualization can help one put things into context. No one gets out of here alive, and I've seen the greatest and the least suffer the trials and tribulations of humanity. I think over 150 years ago, what an exciting time for someone like Dr. Rudolf Virchow to be describing disease, life and mankind from the cellular to the social factors that influence health. I'm no scholar. I walked away from academia and never looked back, no desire to formally research, study and publish anything. I like the real life full of uncertainties and to look at the results of others who are more inclined to such studies. I'm a generalist in life, a "jack of all trades" sometimes a level of mastery in more than one. Every day, realizing how much I don't know despite what I think I have known. The first poem is apropos, rejoice, the human spirit is alive!

Writing with light is probably my primary passionate hobby... but it overlaps with others, like computer technology...

FREE/LIBRE OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE
AND OPERATING SYSTEMS (e.g., GNU/LINUX) STUFF

I'm a major advocate for the 4 freedoms in Free/Libre Software and the GNU Public License. I think it is important that everyone know about these tools. We all start somewhere. I started with them in 2007 and within a year I never looked back.

What are you going to do if your cell network or other infrastructure is down due to an emergency event? I'll be on the air.

RANDOM PAST MUSINGS

Only for the hardcore potential techie... maybe. I was having fun and testing out some concepts in the past. Still do... grin.
